I have years of experience helping people heal from trauma and PTSD to find greater peace and joy in their lives. On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

I know that seeking help and the process of change is scary. People struggling with the impact of trauma or anxiety work really hard to forget or ignore the thoughts and bodily experiences they are having. This may work for a while. But if this is not working for you anymore, it might be time to begin the process of healing. It is important to me that you feel safe, so I take a very careful approach, making sure we do not move faster than you feel ready. I will make sure you have the tools to handle the bodily and emotional feelings that come up before we even begin to talk about the fears and experiences that are interfering with your life. I do this so you do not get more overwhelmed. But if you are already feeling overwhelmed and all the coping strategies that have worked in the past are no longer working, it may be time to look at what is causing this and find peace.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

It is clear from all the research that whether it is therapy or any other relationship, connection, compassion and caring are what make relationships work. It is most important that you feel safe, heard, understood and nurtured in coming to see me. Feelings of connection are vital in all aspects of our lives, health and the healing process. This is also the case in seeing a therapist. Make sure when you see a therapist that they are unconditionally accepting and caring, but also that they gently challenge you to be who you are striving to be. It is in this nurturing honesty that people find a comforting space to explore and find peace.
