I believe that it is possible to break the anxiety cycle and improve family relationships, and that the best way to do this is through using skills and not just pills. I specialize in working with individuals who are struggling with stress or anxiety and parents who want to understand and get along with their children better. We will look at how your thoughts and actions impact your experiences and work on developing tools for improving your feelings and experiences. Parents are an important part of my work with children. We will work best together if you are committed to learning new ways to interact with the world to improve your emotions, or your children?s emotions, to feel more successful.
While medication can be an important part of treatment for some individuals, it cannot replace the benefits of therapy. When medication is part of the treatment plan, I coordinate with prescribing physicians to make sure we are working together to provide the best help possible.

More Info About My Practice
In order to provide the best service with the highest level of privacy, I do not contract with insurance companies. Psychotherapy can benefit people even if they do not have a mental health diagnosis, and may even help to prevent the onset of a mental illness, but insurance companies will only cover services when a diagnosis is given. If you do have a diagnosis and would like to submit to your insurance, I will be happy to provide you with a receipt to do so.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
People often ask if therapy works. My answer is a resounding YES! I know this is true not only because research has shown psychotherapy to be at least as effective as medication for improving people's mental and emotional functioning for many problems, but also because I've seen it work. I've seen people who are struggling to function learn to live lives of meaning. I've seen children and adults become happier and more confident individuals. I've seen people who were just "surviving" start to thrive. And I've used the skills and information I share during sessions to improve my own life.
How does this happen? Our brains are interactive organs. They respond to our environments and actions in physical ways. Medication is not the only way to impact chemical or neural functioning. Just as we can learn new skills in school or for a job, we can learn new ways of responding to our environments that are more effective. Therapy can help by teaching new skills for managing difficult situations. It can provide a safe place to discuss thoughts and feelings with an objective third party who has no personal biases about what choices we make, which can help us to be honest with ourselves and our choices. This can help us to gain better understanding and insight into why we respond to life the way we do, which can help guide us to making different choices. These are just some of the ways that therapy can help.

People have an amazing ability to adapt. Sometimes the way we adapt to one situation leads to difficulty in other situations, and it's in our best interest to adapt again. I love being able to help people figure out what is and isn't working well for them, what would work better, and supporting them through the process of getting there.
