I treat sexual abuse/trauma recovery, codependence recovery, and helping clients find satisfaction, joy, and a general feeling of contentment. Using various techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy, sand tray therapy, and talk therapy, my clients feel a difference within one month. Most of my clients are finished and satisfied with their goals in therapy within 3-9 months. I am trained in Family Therapy, therefore, I use these techniques to explore family of origin issues. I see teens through adults. My background before counseling includes 23 years as a classroom teacher, 10 of those being in schools that cater to ADD/ADHD students. My purpose as a counselor is to empower my clients to find their own strengths to face problems or transitions in life and successfully navigate them. I do offer evening and Saturday appointments along with Monday-Friday.

How Psychotherapy Can Help
If you are experiencing depression or anxiety, therapy will always help, even if you are taking medication. Sometimes depression and anxiety are related to early life experiences or abuse. Abuse includes sexual, physical and emotional. Emotional abuse can be verbal and nonverbal. Anytime we are not accepted or approved of by another person, especially one we live with, we are being abused. Oftentimes, we become used to the abuse and do not know another way of life, especially if we experienced abuse as a child. Psychotherapy also helps if we are just feeling "emptiness." This feeling is sometimes related to lack of "growing up" that can leave us feeling like we don't fit in. We can usually mature only as far as our parents could take us. In other words, our parents/caretakers had their own issues and level of maturity which they pass on to us. Exploring our family of origin will always bring to light our problems that can then be worked through. Alcoholism in a person's background or present is always a defining factor in quality of life also. If one lives with active alcoholism or did as a child, the personality development is affected and often "stuck." Pursuing a program of emotional development will often relieve a person of distress, depression, anxiety, and a general feeling of sadness. I am here to serve my clients and to empower them to better emotional and mental health.
