I work from a belief that personal history informs peoples' current issues and that discovering those connections cultivates insight and produces change. I use mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral interventions in helping clients to understand and change their negative beliefs. My style is warm and supportive as well as direct and authentic. I specialize in using harm reduction for those for whom substance mis-use or abuse is an issue. I also specialize in working with couples.

I have worked in private practice for over 15 years, working with clients who have difficulty maintaining or navigating through relationships with work, partners and family. I also work extensively with clients who are using substances and would like to change, not necessarily stop, the way they use them.

I help clients cultivate insight by using compassion, direction, authenticity and humor. I help to make lasting change in individuals and with couples.

More Info About My Practice

Harm Reduction accepts that alcohol and other drug users can and do make healthy decisions about their lives. I offer Harm Reduction Therapy Groups in my private practice in the financial district in San Francisco. All are accessible by public transportation

There are two groups offered:

8 week psychoeducational group . This group is for someone who is new to Harm Reduction. Group members will learn about harm reduction and the various harm reduction techniques. We'll also explore the feelings often associated with drug and alcohol use. I teach how to use mindfulness for cravings and difficult feelings. There is modest goal setting and exploration around the ability to adhere to goals. The groups are small and help facilitate change and support.

I am currently completing assessments for the openings in the Monday evening group!

Ongoing Harm Reduction Support group. This group is for those who have completed the 8 week group or are familiar with Harm Reduction. The group topic comes from it's participants and are focused around the issues that arise while working towards moderating or abstaining. Participants set goals around their use or the healthy lifestyle practices that minimize the harm from use. Participants also explore with the group their ability to maintain that goal or discuss the obstacles that may surround it. Group members, using support and experience, help one another learn to use or drink the way they want to.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Couple Therapy and Substance Mis-Use and Abuse issues are my two specialties.
