Billing and Insurance
I don't currently accept insurance, but I can provide documentation if clients wish to submit to an insurance company for "out of network" benefit coverage
Fees: Why engage a private therapist? A number of reasons to choose a private therapist include privacy, quality and cost. Cost is often not as great as you thought if you have a PPO plan. Indeed, in some cases the co-pay has been as low as $25 per session (even $0) but it varies based on what your company offers. I can also send a courtesy bill to your insurance company so you do not have to file them yourself. And once we establish what your share of costs is that is all you have to pay. If your co-pay is higher it pays for the increased quality of my services including considerably more training than most therapists, my on-going confidential consultations about my cases with other highly qualified people in the field and my time in-between our sessions to analyze your situation. This amounts to considerably more value than the standard 45 to 50 minute session with an in-network provider where their effort typically begins and ends with the meeting itself.

We are deeply governed by our relationships. They are primary in how they've shaped our past and endure into the present. Together we will work to change these long held patterns.
Our habits make it harder to change and often back us into corners. My purpose in therapy is to ease your suffering, find your purpose, increase your pleasant experiences in your relationships, work and creativity. As well, I seek transformation in your life. I've seen quite a few people who've worked with me achieve these aims.
What can you expect to accomplish? Change. Transformation from a range of possibilities -- improved mood on a lasting basis, new and effective coping strategies, effectively standing up for yourself, improvements in your relationships and career including your daily work life, peace of mind, enhanced creativity, and darn it, love and fun!
"There's no such thing as a baby, that is, without its mother." (D.W. Winnicott, MD). That's what Winnicott, a well-known psychologist, is saying. Relationally based and experiential therapy gets to the core of our being. We won't just talk about your feelings, we'll actually feel what's coming up in the consulting room and in your experience. And I don't maintain a neutral stance in that I have emotions and will acknowledge them judiciously, unlike many other types of therapy.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work
I combine a number of approaches to get the best results. Working with standard approaches such as developmental psychodynamic psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and a newer approach that's oriented to the relational sides of your life called attachment theory, we can gather in what's influenced you and how that shows up now. As Stephen Levine, the well-known poet, author, and teacher has said, "The reason your family pushes your buttons is that they installed them." We'll work together to reset them.
I also use some of the new cutting-edge approaches (AEDP and Hakomi) that integrate body-based feelings and experiences as well as the latest developments in brain science and neuropsychology. By focusing on the body we're not just thinking and talking about the changes you want and need; you'll actually feel them. This impacts and increases our motivation. Finally I bring over 25 years in mindfulness to assist us in stepping back and gaining perspective.
What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process
Why come to me and not just rely on your family and friends? As a neutral person I've nothing to gain or lose, or as they say, "I've got no skin in the game." I've been a practicing clinician for over 15 years. Prior to that I also worked in corporations (high tech, financial services, etc.); as core faculty at California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS); as well as an environmental economist to international, federal, state and local agencies; and I also founded and ran my own firm. I believe this background helps me to understand not just your emotional world but also the world you may have worked in.
