We are a private practice of professional psychotherapists serving metropolitan Washington, DC. Recognized internationally for her work on the post-traumatic effects of incest/child sexual abuse and other types of complex trauma, Dr. Courtois has developed specialized treatment approaches. Christine A. Courtois, PHD, ABPP is the principal and founder of this practice that has currently been expanded to include more staff and more services. A graduate of the University of Maryland and a licensed psychologist, Dr. Courtois is an internationally-recognized therapist, workshop leader, speaker, consultant, and specialist in post-traumatic and dissociative conditions. She is also Co-Founder and former Clinical and Training Consultant to The Center: Post-traumatic Disorders Program, an in-patient and day hospital specialty program in Washington, DC. She has co-edited the book Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders: An Evidence-based Guide (2009) and authored Recollections of Sexual Abuse: Treatment Principles and Guidelines (1999), Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse: A Workshop Model (1993), and Healing the Incest Wound: Adult Survivors in Therapy (1988). She is Associate Editor of the journal Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, & Policy. She routinely conducts training workshops for other professionals on the treatment of trauma.
