Making an appointment to see a therapist for the first time can be an intimidating experience. This is why I do my best to ensure that you feel at ease and are given as much information as you need prior to making a decision to engage in therapy with me through Kin & Kids, Marriage, Family and Child Therapy Center.
I previously held two professional licenses from the State of Texas, USA: Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern (LPC-I) (#64698) and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA) (#201404). I am also a Registered and Licensed Counselor (#KB01868) and a Counseling Psychologist in Malaysia. For you information, psychology is neither regulated by law or any professional body in Malaysia, but peer recognition as a psychologist is typically given to those who have at least a Master-level qualification in the field of psychology that they profess to specialize in. As part of my professional development, I am an Associate Member of the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (AAMFT), a Professional Member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), and an International Professional Member of the American Association of Play Therapists (APT). To ensure that I provide my best service to my clients, I adhere to the ethical standards of these associations and receive clinical supervision regularly with US licensed mental health professionals.
My academic qualifications includes the following: LLB (Hons)(2nd Upper)(Malaya), BS in Applied Psychology (Upper Iowa), MS in Counseling Psychology (North Texas), Graduate Academic Certificate (post-Master program) in Child Counseling/Play Therapy (North Texas), In addition to these qualifications, I have received accredited training in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples) and a Certification of Mediation from the Bar Council Malaysia. I am currently pursuing certification as an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and an APT Registered Play Therapist.
I have been privileged to work with clients from diverse racial, social, and economic background. My mental health work experience in Texas include working as a psychiatric assessment clinician at a psychiatric hospital, a psychological assistant at a residential home for individuals who are intellectually challenged, and a therapist at several outpatient community counseling agencies. In Malaysia, I have worked at a university psychological and counseling center as well as a private practitioner, serving both local and expatriate clients. I have also worked as a lecturer and clinical supervisor in the Master in Clinical Psychology, Master in Counseling and Bachelor of Psychology programs at HELP University College. I am currently an adjunct lecturer with the Linguistic Council. Prior to becoming a mental health professional, I worked as an attorney in Malaysia for six years doing litigation and corporate law.
While I am open to seeing people with various issues, my area of interest is in working with couples and families from diverse backgrounds, as well as with children with life adjustment issues.
I believe that emotionally fulfilling relationships are integral components of mental and physical health. In a nurturing social environment, people can learn to be more accepting of themselves and will be more capable of maximizing their potential, thus finding happiness and contentment in their lives. However, self-awareness and self-acceptance are goals that may sometimes take time to achieve. If therapy is successful, you should feel that you are in a better position to face life's challenges in the future without my support or intervention.
I will work collaboratively with you most often in the format of short-term goal-oriented therapy (6-12 sessions). I begin with a full intake assessment followed by a feedback and recommendations, which may include a referral to another professional who may be an expert in the area of treatment that you are seeking. Should you decide to enter into therapy with me after the intake, we will work together to set the goals for therapy, identify the modality of treatment intervention, and evaluate the progress of therapy over a specified number of sessions.

More Info About My Practice
I typically see clients on Mondays to Thursdays and on Saturdays. I see clients at KIN & KIDS, Marriage, Family and Child Therapy Center located at E-8-6, Megan Avenue 1, 189 Jalan Tun Razak, 50400 Kuala Lumpur.
My rates begin at RM450-RM550 for the initial intake assessment (75 - 100 minutes) and decrease as the sessions progress. I have some limited space for individuals/couples in full-time ministry and clients with refugee status, who may apply for a special fee reduction.
Kin & Kids also has clinical psychologists, licensed counselors and graduate-level counselors-in-training who are available to see clients. Our clinical psychologist also does psychological assessments for ADHD, learning disorders, cognitive assessments and mental health assessments. There is no fee to see our counselors-in-training who work under my clinical supervision, but an administrative fee. This is a good option for students or clients with financial concerns.
I also conduct play therapy and other continuing education training, as well as run regular group and individual clinical supervision.
