Sometimes we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, pressures from work, school and relationships. When these feelings build, we might feel ourselves cycling through unhelpful thinking patterns. It can be hard to enjoy the good things in our lives or want to participate in the world around us. This is the time to seek professional help from a skilled therapist. I help people to clarify their thinking, make sense of the "noise" and use strategies to work through difficult issues.
My job as a therapist is to help you find meaningful resolutions and strategies to cope with emotional and psychological pain. Families, couples and individuals come to find tools, interventions and productive ways to communicate to meet their needs. Take the first step in getting help by calling today for a consultation or to schedule an appointment. Together we can find room for positive change and you will take the skills and strategies we develop beyond our work and into your life for sustained wellness.

The best part of working with people is being allowed to enter their worlds and help them to make a difference in their lives and the lives of their families.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
The purpose of psychotherapy is to help people move forward. Sometimes people are stuck for so long, they don't realize their lives can be different or better. My job is to listen without judging or evaluating and to hear where people struggle and help them to find their way out and forward. Part of my job is to help you disentangle and make sense of the issues you find troubling. Therapy is a collaborative effort. I help people to identify what is missing, troubling and what is important to them. We will work together to attain your goals.
Some people feel going to therapy makes them weak. They believe they should be able to handle their problems alone. The opposite is true. It takes courage to admit when you need help and to be willing to work through painful feelings.
People are sometimes worried that they will be in therapy forever. Therapy should not be decades long with a therapist focused on uncovering every embarrassing or painful experience in minute detail. Therapy should focus on what is important to the person coming for help and end when they feel better. Some people come back for "tune ups", like a visit to the Dr. when they are sick. The duration and frequency of therapy is decided by the client, not the therapist.
People ask me, "What type of problem, or how big should a problem be for me to seek therapy". Problems are situations or circumstances which interfere with our happiness or ability to function in a positive and productive way.
