.I see therapy as a chance to engage phases in life through pivotal changes. People seek therapy when they are facing life changing events. The change is caused by seeing life differently that we used to. Trauma can occur when what we knew as safe and so-called normal is challenged by things out of our control. It can feel like torture and suffering; but it also can birth a new human being.

Suffering grows from the pain of the past, discomfort of the present, and uncertainty of the future. Trauma grows from suffering. Whether you're facing a death, violence, divorce, or instability, trauma brings chaos to our everyday order. I'll work to help you understand the thoughts, emotions, and fears that accompany the transformation journey with the goal of integrating who you were and who you are becoming.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I was once asked by an intern who worked for me how she could learn my style of therapy. I advised that she needs to go out in the world and get her heart broken; break some hearts herself; make mistakes; get back up; place yourself in every uncomfortable situation; find friends, lovers and enemies who challenge you; make you uncomfortable and force you to grow. Taste death and resuscitate life. Travel if possible or at least learn about other cultures. Find out what you fear and face it and find out what you love and embrace it. Accept your humiliations because the root word is humility and to wear that means you are at the continual apex of being a student and teacher. Struggle purifies, perfects and teaches us that mistakes are a necessary variable to success. Then, when you are not trying to control how you want to be, somewhere at the crossroads you will meet wisdom. That is how I learned to become a skilled therapist.
