Total Context Therapy is based on psychodynamic principles with a postmodern perspective. We use an analytic tool adapted for the individual that engages the patient in intensive self-exploration exercises and experiences coterminous with the recommended 12 to 16-week course of therapy. At the same time, we consider our treatment nothing if not Humanistic, in that we practice unconditional positive regard as a core value. Our treatment team works as a unit to construct an integrative, holistic Proposal for Treatment for each patient. We consider our team unique in that we have collective expertise in psychodynamic treatment of personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, LGBTQ issues, learning disabilities/behavioral assessment, and addictions, among other areas.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

We are especially adept at helping individuals and couples recover from the suffering imposed upon them by parents with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. We also offer what we believe is unique in our area-- LGBTQ couples counseling. Dr. Payne provides comprehensive psychological evaluations that are considered quite helpful to both examinee and the referring institution/organization. Between us we are trained and/or certified in numerous treatment modalities, including EMDR, Behavioral Analysis, Domestic Violence, and Post-Traumatic Stress Exposure Therapy.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy, according to our core philosophy, is a quasi-spiritual (without being religious)and deeply felt learning experience. We sometimes call treatment with us akin to "attending the University of You". When people suffer, we reinforce and acknowledge the importance of the experience as meaning-rich. People, we believe, "are so much more than their diagnosis". Human growth is about appreciating, and "mining" the ordinary and sublime experiences of daily life.
