Hello. Would you like some help getting through difficult times? Would you like to better understand yourself along the way? I would like to help. I am a warm and empathic person and I enjoy helping people get through and learn from difficult times, explore new perspectives on themselves and their situations, feel more free to be themselves, and know and express themselves more authentically and effectively.

I focus on understanding people, as they see themselves. The process of understanding people involves exploring the costs and benefits of their ways of seeing themselves, how such ways of seeing themselves came about over time, and the discovery of exciting new ways of seeing and relating to themselves and others. Feeling understood well by another person can have a number of positive effects. It can help the person better understand himself/herself, increase self-confidence, increase self-trust, increase hope, reduce anxiety and depression, reduce guilt and shame, and reduce confusion and feelings of being adrift, stuck, or lost.

In addition to individual therapy, I also help people better understand themselves through group therapy. Group therapy is a very rich and exciting form of therapy in which you can grow by interacting with, observing, and helping the other members. Groups are great places to discover that you are not alone and to feel a sense of belonging. Group therapy can improve relationship skills and can be a rewarding emotional experience.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

I enjoy helping people discover productive new perspectives on their "problems" and "disorders." A productive perspective helps people to grow and feel better about themselves.

I think many of our difficulties come from our not having better ways of doing things or perspectives available to us at the moments we need them.

Many times, the better way that we need is simply a clearer, less distorted way of thinking about ourselves, our situation, and other people. When we have a clear understanding of how our difficulties are arising, it is much easier to find an effective solution.

In other words, "disorders" tend to arise from "disordered" views--from not clearly understanding yourself, the situation, and/or the other people. A good therapist can help you understand how difficulties arise in your life so that you can respond more skillfully to them and feel more free to be yourself.
