My Therapy Focus

I believe the focus of therapy should be 'temporary.' Therapy is very important and my goal as a therapist is for my clients to no longer need my services. Being trained in CBT has allowed me to help my clients focus on their thoughts and help them understand their thoughts create their feelings. Once they learn they are in control of their own thoughts and beliefs, they can learn to change them. Of course, all clients are different and all situations are different so the length of therapy varies as clients progress.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

I believe the most important factors in choosing a therapist is trust and compliance. There must be rapport between client and therapist in order to make therapy beneficial. If the client is not being honest or therapist is not being neutral then the relationship will not work; therefore, hindering positive progress. Compliance is another very important factor. The issues that brought the client into therapy are very important and I believe it is important for the therapist to set rules on attending counseling appointments and eliminating 'no show' appointments (less case of emergency) and completing any type of homework/handouts/journaling that therapist has suggested between sessions.
