My philosophy, which informs how I help people, is that the suffering we associate with our problems (physical, emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual) is an invitation to remember so that we can heal and grow. What we are remembering is anything we can't handle (our definition of trauma). When we can't handle something, it creates a template in our body which we can experience as uncomfortable sensations. So it's not us that has the problem, it is the uncomfortable sensations.

The template acts as a magnet, bringing to us similar situations/problems until we can handle them. When we do handle them, we heal and grow, and the problem either dissolves or the associated anxiety/suffering goes away. My approach is to do a diagnostic with you to find the root cause of your problem. I use muscle testing (kinesiology) to do this. Muscle testing is a way to access our deepest knowing - and this 'knowing' knows what created our problem and what practice we need to do to resolve it.

I invite you to bring all of your attention to the body sensation associated with the root cause of the problem. We have the sensation communicate the story through you. My role is to point you in a direction and hold the space in a non-attached, open-minded, and open-hearted way. Your role is to report whatever comes to you, and if necessary, do some kind of practice/intervention. When we are complete, and you're balanced, you'll know right away that something is different because the discomfort is gone.

More Info About My Practice

Sessions: First is typically 1.5 hours, subsequent sessions are typically 1 hour. In my experience, the work is much more efficient and effective than any talk therapy I've studied. Frequency of visits is unique to each client. Often it is less than once a week. Some people use the work as a psycho-spiritual practice, in which case they tend to come longer term.

Most people come to resolve specific problems; in that case, the therapy tends to be brief. Fees: Group - $60 per session, Individual - $180 for a 50 minute session. See our web site for other services and costs. Insurance we take: United Behavioral Health (including Harvard Pilgrim Health Care), Private Insurer's, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and out of network.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I'm truly passionate about the work I do. And I'm fortunate enough to witness healing that I would've believed impossible from my very traditional background. Sometimes one session can seem miraculous. I have witnessed people with chronic pain resolve it in one session.
I have also witnessed chronic suicidal ideation and major depression resolve in a session. Most of the time the work isn't that dramatic. Nonetheless, virtually all clients notice some positive difference at the end of every session. In terms of my life work, I feel like one of the luckiest people in the world.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

I believe the most important factor in choosing a therapist is to trust your heart and your gut. When you bring your attention to your body in this way, you will know if there is a resonance between you and your therapist.

A second, really important factor is the framework out of which the therapist works. In my experience, body-centered therapy creates a much greater sense of immediacy than talk therapy. It is the difference between living in the moment versus talking about it.
