My Approach to Helping

Are you feeling lost, anxious, overwhelmed, or sad? Has life's meaning and vibrancy faded into the dull gray of depression? Periods of sadness are a normal part of life, but when the sadness lingers without improvement, it is time to take action. There is a message in your depression and an opportunity for a more fulfilling way of life. I can help you find your way through the fog, and strengthen you in your journey of healing and growth.

I view depression and other emotional struggles as opportunities for growth and the psyche's way of helping us realize our fullest potential. For example, although the symptoms of depression or anxiety cause us discomfort, they also get our attention and challenge us to reflect on our life. At these times we can become more open to the voice and guidance of our deeper self, the soul, God. A ray of light breaks through the darkness offering hope and nourishment for our journey.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Psychotherapy is most effective when it helps people live their lives with greater honesty. This does not mean that you must be an open book to everyone you meet. But it is helpful the more you can be an open book to yourself. The more your life is an expression of your deeper values and gifts, the more alive and healthy you feel. This honesty is the goal of psychotherapy, and gives it its healing power.

My Therapy Focus

My goal is to help you develop a more vital connection with your deeper self, or soul. This is the source of your healing wisdom and energy. Without a healthy dialogue with the soul through dream analysis, contemplation, and exploration of your relationships and other life events, therapy becomes a paint-by-number affair rather than the unique, individualized journey it is meant to be. In fact, being disconnected from the values and wisdom of your core self gives rise to most of the emotional and psychological problems you will encounter in life.
