My Approach to Helping

I have extensive experience treating a wide range of disorders including depression, anxiety, addiction, and familial/relationship issues. I am trained in several disciplines in clinical psychology, including analytic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and interpersonal psychotherapy, and I often adopt a flexible and eclectic treatment approach when appropriate. I treat adults and teens in individual, couples, and group-modalities.

More Info About My Practice

So that patient confidentiality is preserved and treatment is not dictated by insurance companies, I choose to remain an out-of-network provider. I will, however, help patients submit paperwork to insurance companies to receive reimbursement. Depending on insurance coverage and/or diagnosis, my patients typically receive between 50-90 percent reimbursement. I also work on a sliding scale on an 'as-needed' basis. Initial in-house consultations are always free of charge.

My Therapy Focus

I am fundamentally a psychodynamic psychologist. This means that that I believe early experiences and relationships have a profound impact on who we are and how we perceive the world and interact with others. Exploring these relationships and uncovering unconscious conflicts are are the foundation of psychodynamic treatment. This being said, I do appreciate that the decision to seek treatment is typically prompted by distress and I understand the importance of focusing on presenting problems and alleviating symptoms. Ultimately, however, understanding the past as it pertains to the present is hallmark ultimately to achieving a better quality of life.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

My skill and perception as a psychodynamic clinician is coupled with a warm and empathic style. Encompassing my work is the strong belief that the therapeutic process is a creative and mutual one that is most effective in a warm and safe environment. True to this, I offer a free in-office consultation so that we may determine whether we can work effectively and well together.
