My thoughts are, "it certainly can't hurt, and it may help" give it a whirl.
Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
Most negative therapy experiences that have been relayed to me are rooted in basic personality conflict. My suggestion is that if you do not feel a connection or "click" with a counselor within the first two sessions look elsewhere.
We are not expected to like or be friends with everyone we meet, you are not expected to be able to work with every counselor out there. It's OK!
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
I suggest to take into consideration the accessibility of the counselor you choose. Is the counselor a reasonable distance from your home, do they have hours that fit your schedule, will they make home visits, will parking be an issue?
The easier it is to make appointments with your counselor the more likely you will be to continue with your course of therapy and enjoy the rewards of the work you put into improving your life.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
My thoughts on this are that I sure know a lot of people who have weaknesses and / or flaws, but I sure know a lot LESS people who are doing something about it!
Those are the people who are making strides to improve their life for themselves and the people around them they love.
