Good therapy focuses on establishing an authentic therapeutic relationship between the client(s) and therapist to facilitate an open, supportive, non-judgmental space for growth and change. Good therapy recognizes that you are the expert on your life. Working collaboratively, we will explore the issues that are most important to you and the areas where you feel you are struggling the most.
While I see clients who are seeking therapy for a variety of reasons, I specialize in issues related to pregnancy/postpartum mental health and early parenthood. The focus of my work is on helping individuals and couples navigate the transition to parenthood in a way that feels genuine and empowering. Through connecting with ourselves on a deeper level, we are able to recognize our own inner strength and parent from a place of confidence and compassion.

As a therapist, my work is rooted in the belief that every individual has within themselves the capacity to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. That our ability to know and accept ourselves as we really are, not as who we want to be, is the foundation of true freedom. Greater self-awareness and self-acceptance helps us let go of many of the fears, negative emotions, and self-criticisms that hold us back.
Therapy can create a safe space to explore what matters most to you as you move toward greater self-awareness and self-acceptance. As you begin to acknowledge and accept yourself in the moment, as you are and without judgement, you begin to reconnect with your most authentic self.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
The "clinical orientation" of the therapist is a big factor, and one that is often not adequately considered. First, what does it even mean? Basically it's their approach to therapy. The lens through which they view their work as a therapist. While it isn't necessary to know all the details, it's important to have a clear picture of how they work. Do they use a very structured approach? Is it an active style of therapy? Will you get homework assignments or projects? Will you learn specific skills or tools? Or build insight as you talk through your experiences, thoughts, and feelings? In many cases, it will be a combination of approaches. It's important that any potential therapist you talk with is able to explain how they work, and in a way that you can understand. Think about whether it sounds like a good fit. Talk with at least a few different people, especially if it's your first time trying therapy, so you can get a better feel for your options.
