For many of us, painful lived experiences lie at the heart of our distress. Most of us have had to grapple with adversities such as difficulties within our families, with our peers, with other important figures, or even with painful messages embedded in our culture. Many of us have also experienced significant losses, major life transitions, and traumatic events. These experiences can leave us with a wide range of psychological symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors, eating and body image concerns, low self-esteem, and others. Left untreated, these symptoms often shape our decisions as we try to guard against further pain, resulting in life patterns that feel familiar, constraining, and unsatisfying.
Therapy can help us connect how the challenges we have faced contribute to our current symptoms and struggles. With this insight we can become 'unstuck' and start to feel hopeful that life can be experienced more richly. Through a collaborative approach I help people develop new perspective, flexible approaches to present-day challenges, and a sense of empowerment so that they can transform their hope into reality.

More Info About My Practice
My office is located near the Dupont Circle, Farragut North, and Farragut West metro stations. I offer daytime and evening appointments and am currently accepting new clients.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have extensive experience treating a variety of anxiety-related issues, including general anxiety/worry, social anxiety, academic anxiety, anxiety associated with post-traumatic stress, specific phobias, and anxiety stemming from family and relationship issues.
Many of my training opportunities were in university counseling centers, and this helped me develop skill working with college students as well as many of the issues college students often struggle with, such as perfectionism, procrastination, body image concerns, career uncertainty, adjustment issues associated with moving and young adulthood, romantic relationship difficulties, and sexual identity development.
The DC metropolitan area can be competitive and demanding. Many people here struggle with feelings of personal and professional inadequacy, difficulty maintaining work-life balance, and trouble setting boundaries with all the people who make requests of them. I have become experienced at helping people in these positions develop self-esteem and self-compassion, clarify their values, and take the necessary steps to achieve a more fulfilling life that reflects their hard work and passion.
