Ridgewood has a population of 26,000 people. The population grew by 3% between 2010 and 2017. The median age in the village is 42 years old.

The racial composition of Ridgewood is 73% white, 15% Asian, 8% Hispanic, and 2% black. Foreign-born people make up 22% of the population. Around 25% of people speak a foreign language at home. Ridgewood is home to 1,200 Korean speakers and 1,100 Spanish speakers.

Mental Health in Ridgewood

Substance use is a growing concern in Bergen County. From 2016 to 2018, there were around 500 reported cases of drug overdose. More than 400 of these cases were related to heroin and opioid use. There were 308 drug overdoses reported in 2017 alone—a third of which were fatal.

City officials created Operation Helping Hand to help residents experiencing drug addiction. Individuals who are arrested for drug-related charges are given the chance to speak to a recovery specialist. If the person consents to receive assistance, they can get referrals to mental health treatment and detox programs. In the most recent iteration of the program (held March 2018), 19 people consented to treatment.
