Atlantic Highlands is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey. It covers a land area of 1 square mile. The area was formerly known as Portland Pointe. Atlantic Highlands was incorporated as a borough in 1887. 

Atlantic Highlands has a population of 4,400 people. The median age among residents is 45 years old. Roughly one-fourth of adults age 25 and older have a bachelor’s degree. Over 21% have a graduate or professional degree. 356 veterans live in Atlantic Highlands.  

Nearly 99% of people in Atlantic Highlands are United States citizens. The population is 89% white, 5% Hispanic, 2% black, and 1% Asian. Roughly 9% of residents speak a language other than English at home. 

The median household income in Atlantic Highlands is $91,600. The homeownership rate is 78%. The median property value is $366,300, nearly double the national average. About 5% of residents live below the poverty line.

Mental Health in Atlantic Highlands

Drug addiction is a major cause for concern in Monmouth County. In response to the issue, police officers throughout the county have been equipped with naloxone, an overdose reversal drug. In 2017, 151 county residents died from drug-related causes.

However, the opioid crisis in Monmouth County does seem to be waning. The number of drug deaths decreased by 8% between 2016 and 2017. The number of times officials needed to administer naloxone also decreased in that time, dropping from 714 to 672.

Atlantic Highlands residents experiencing a substance abuse or mental health issue can access services through Monmouth County’s Office of Mental Health. The office advocates for individuals with mental health conditions and links them with suitable treatment programs. It also assesses the needs of children with behavioral concerns.
