Palatine is a village located in Cook County, Illinois. It was incorporated in 1866 and spans an area of 14 square miles. There are roughly 68,600 people living in the village of Palatine, 86% of whom are American citizens.

The population of Palatine is 65% white, 18% Hispanic, 12% Asian, and 2% black. Around one in four people in the village were born in a foreign country. Thirty-four percent of residents speak a foreign language at home. There are 9,800 Spanish speakers, 2,800 Polish speakers, and 1,100 Tagalog speakers in Palatine. 

The median age in Palatine is 38 years old. Nearly half (49%) of adults age 25 and older have a bachelor’s degree. The homeownership rate in the village is 68%.

Palatine residents earn an average of $38,200 annually. The median household income is $75,100. Ten percent of Palatine residents live in poverty. 

Mental Health in Palatine

Mental health concerns are common among inmates at the Cook County Jail. According to the Cook County Sheriff, one-third of the jail population has mental health issues. Due to the prevalence of such issues, Cook County Jail has been dubbed the largest mental health facility in the United States.
