About Claremont

Claremont is a city in Los Angeles County, California. It is located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains in the Pomona Valley. The city has an elevation of 1,150 feet and covers 13 square miles. The population is 36,100. 

The city is home to the famous Claremont Colleges, a collection of five undergraduate colleges and two graduate schools. Among residents over 25 years old, 57% have a bachelor’s degree. 

The ethnic composition of Claremont is 54% white, 22% Hispanic, 16% Asian, and 4% black. Foreign-born people make up 19% of the population. Thirty percent of residents speak a foreign language at home. Claremont is home to 4,500 Spanish speakers, 2,100 Chinese speakers, and 600 Vietnamese speakers.

There are 11,700 households in Claremont. The median household income is $94,000. Sixty-six percent of families own their home. Roughly 10% of Claremont residents live in poverty.
