My Approach to Helping
I believe therapy should be a collaborative process between the therapist and client, operating as equals in an environment that facilities honesty and authenticity. From my perspective, therapy is best conducted initially from a cognitive-behavioral approach (to provide symptom relief), and then later (if the client desires) from a psychodynamic approach (to identify and resolve the core issues that are contributing to the problem. I believe that clients ultimately know what is best for them if they listen to their authentic self, and that part of the goal of therapy is to help clients develop more confidence in their own ability to heal themselves. I have a somewhat informal style of interacting, because I believe therapy should be a conversation, a comfortable interaction.
