My Approach to Helping
I strongly believe in the benefits of the therapeutic process. I also have a passion for learning and helping others by sharing my education through counseling and teaching. I believe that knowledge is empowering and a key factor in understanding, problem solving and healing. "When we know better we do better."

I use several different theories of therapy including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, Solution Focused and Family Systems.

EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories (Shapiro, 1989a, 1989b). EMDR has been successful with clients who have experienced PTSD, phobias, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, childhood abuse, rape and other traumatic events. You can learn more about this therapy at the EMDR website or feel free to email me.

More Info About My Practice
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapy that is based on cognition, assumptions, beliefs, and behaviors, and also it aims of influencing negative emotions that relate to inaccurate appraisal of events. The general approach is developed out of behavior modification. CBT is considered among the most rapid in terms of results obtained. What enables CBT to be briefer are its highly instructive nature and the fact that it makes use of homework. CBT can be helpful to make sense of overwhelming problems by breaking them down into smaller elements. Thus, it becomes easier to see how they are connected, and how much they are effective to you. The parts are generally a situation, which can be a problem, event or difficult situation. This model follows thoughts, emotions, physical feelings and actions. Clients must also be willing to take a very active role in the treatment process.

Family systems therapy works with families, couples and individuals by looking at the family of origin and patterns of behavior and coping that have been passed down through generations. Change and development are nurtured by emphasizing the family relationship as being key in emotional health.
