My Approach to Helping
Therapy is a chance for you to explore your feelings and thoughts, to gain a better understanding of yourself, and to make positive changes that will allow you to experience life more fully. It is my job to provide a safe environment for your exploration, and to draw on my knowledge of theory and technique to help you access untapped or forgotten resources.
Due to the unique nature of each individual and the issues brought to therapy, I use an eclectic approach which utilizes the tools of many different theories, yet I generally view my work through the lens of ExistentialHumanistic Psychology and Gestalt Psychotherapy. This is a perspective that focuses on growth, responsibility, choice and awareness. It is my belief that through a respectful, empathetic, therapeutic relationship the client can acknowledge and explore his/her processes, or structures of living, which limit life, and ultimately he/she will be able to choose, with awareness, how to be in the world. This is an active, present centered, phenomenological approach to therapy.
In addition I have received EMDR training through Level 3 and often use this tool in my practice to address trauma and anxiety. I am a Certified Process Therapist and have trained in Canada in Emotion Focused Therapy.
