My Approach to Helping

Clients in my practice receive non-judgmental acceptance, empathy and respect. You place your trust in me when sharing your innermost concerns. I believe it is a rare privilege to be so trusted, so I handle your feelings with great care and compassion. I work from a strength- and success-based orientation, helping to identify and make use of internal resources you already have, but may not be aware of. My specialties are reducing guilt, shame and self-blame; improving self-esteem and body image, coping with crises such as major life changes, losses of all kinds; relationship issues, anxiety and depression, eating disorders and more. Having worked as an Oncology Social Worker at Swedish Cancer Institute for 23 years, I gained extensive knowledge and experience dealing with all stages of cancer, and with grief and loss. My personal experience with breast cancer (1990-1991), gives me particular insight which is especially helpful to clients dealing with serious, chronic or life-threatening illness. My previous 10 years of experience in Mental Health settings will provide you with a depth of knowledge to help you reach your goals in therapy.

I have had my small psychotherapy practice in Seattle for over 15 years. I offer a free brief initial session on the phone to potential new clients. I am using a sliding fee scale during these difficult economic times. Please feel free to discuss your situation with me. I will provide documentation for you to bill your insurance company, if applicable. I connect quickly with clients, and can draw out even the most shy individuals, so if you don't know what you will talk about or how to begin, you will get all the help you need to become comfortable in a safe and trusting environment.
