Bipolar depression: I have a great deal of experience in working with this complex and fascinating condition and work alongside medical health professionals in assisting clients to better management their conditions. This extends to lifestyle, nutrition, use of CBT methods, early warning systems, anxiety and OCD management, communication skills, inclusion of friends and family into effective support mechanisms, counselling for trauma and related issues, self help skills such as mindfulness, meditation and exercise. This extends to related conditions like non specific mood disorders and borderline personality disorder, since these are often similar to, co-morbidly present alongside or mistaken for bipolar. Methods include life coaching, counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, holistic complementary health education, mindfulness, Naikan, Morita, Meditation and lifeskills coaching.
I am a very strong believer in integrated therapy work. The principle behind this approach is that each individual is a unique person, with unique combinations of needs. No one therapeutic approach is right for everyone, therefore it is the responsibility of the therapist to be flexible, adaptable, experienced and competent in an appropriate range of therapy options. For me (Stuart) this means having studied both western and eastern models of psychology, and being able to implement them through psychotherapy, counselling, hypnotherapy, life coaching, education, complementary therapy, teaching self help skills, while drawing on a range of underpinning philosophies. Some clients benefit from a humanistic or person centred approach, others need a more exploratory approach such as psychoanalysis, others are very "doing" based and therefore take well to coaching or CBT. Some people are reflective, others analytical, others holistic. The appropriate learning style varies between clients, as does their unique presentation, their needs, their desired outcomes, their environment, and all of these things should be considered when designing the therapy response for them. I draw on my varied academic, vocational and professional trainings, as well as experience having worked in related industries including children's services and intensive service support mental health. Integrative therapy is a demanding model that requires competency and qualification in a wide range of models.
