My Approach to Helping
My approach is eclectic, integrative and holistic. I have been in practice since the business began in 1993. Since then I have added to the initial training and qualification with year on year professional training updates. This has resulted in a wide range of therapy options that can be combined to help the individual, group or couple. I am highly supportive of different groups and work actively and positively with people with various sexual persuasions, learning disabilities, mental health problems and other conditons. Speciality areas include anger management, eating disorders, managing mental health conditions such as depression anxiety NEAD and Bipolar, abuse survivors, stress of dyslexia and life coaching.

Both myself and my partner are dedicated to maintaining nationally recognised standards of qualification and practice, including adherence to the NOS National Occupational Standards for the therapies we provide. Male and female practitioners (slighly different therapy availability between practitioners) working alone or together with clients. We are primarily an adult service provider, although teenagers will be accepted with parent supervision.

My colleague (and wife) Denise is a CCC registered counsellor, SHTC registered Life Coach, IPP associate psychologist, and CTHA registered complementary therapist. She offers counselling, coaching, nutritional therapy, energy kinesiology, crystal healing, Reiki, meditation and relaxation therapy. She specialises in women's issues, moving on from abuse and offending, and nutritional therapy. She also works as a volunteer mental health befriender and support worker.

We have both completed ASET externally accredited awards in the many different therapy areas we provide, on top of our initial professional training and ongoing academic study. I (Stuart) have a BSc and an MSc and am working towards two more BA degrees. Denise has a GNVQ, multiple ASET awards and is two thirds of the way through a BSc. We are dedicated to ongoing professional development at university level, supervision and maintaining real standards of qualification and practice.

More Info About My Practice
When choosing a therapist in the UK, please ensure you choose someone who adheres to NOS National Occupational Standards, Has qualifications that are from QCA / SQA (Qualification Curriculum Authority / Scottish Qualification Authority) recognised awarding bodies, and are registered and insured. We are dedicated to standards of both qualification and practice, and we also are involved in writing fully accredited professional training courses for fellow practitioners. Our approach is caring and confidential and provided to the NOS National Occupational Standards. Please feel free to contact us for more information, without obligation. We also provide breakthrough days (days of intensive therapy work) in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Carlisle, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and other locations subject to availability and cost. Stuart (senior partner) is a CNHC registered hypnotherapist, the approved national voluntary regulator for hypnotherapy in the UK.

All new enquiries are given the chance to discuss their needs free of charge and in confidence by email before booking anything. Please contact us by email if possible, because of working between three clinics we are often with clients or travelling so answering the phone is tricky or impossible much of the time.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Bipolar depression: I have a great deal of experience in working with this complex and fascinating condition and work alongside medical health professionals in assisting clients to better management their conditions. This extends to lifestyle, nutrition, use of CBT methods, early warning systems, anxiety and OCD management, communication skills, inclusion of friends and family into effective support mechanisms, counselling for trauma and related issues, self help skills such as mindfulness, meditation and exercise. This extends to related conditions like non specific mood disorders and borderline personality disorder, since these are often similar to, co-morbidly present alongside or mistaken for bipolar. Methods include life coaching, counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, holistic complementary health education, mindfulness, Naikan, Morita, Meditation and lifeskills coaching.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

I am a very strong believer in integrated therapy work. The principle behind this approach is that each individual is a unique person, with unique combinations of needs. No one therapeutic approach is right for everyone, therefore it is the responsibility of the therapist to be flexible, adaptable, experienced and competent in an appropriate range of therapy options. For me (Stuart) this means having studied both western and eastern models of psychology, and being able to implement them through psychotherapy, counselling, hypnotherapy, life coaching, education, complementary therapy, teaching self help skills, while drawing on a range of underpinning philosophies. Some clients benefit from a humanistic or person centred approach, others need a more exploratory approach such as psychoanalysis, others are very "doing" based and therefore take well to coaching or CBT. Some people are reflective, others analytical, others holistic. The appropriate learning style varies between clients, as does their unique presentation, their needs, their desired outcomes, their environment, and all of these things should be considered when designing the therapy response for them. I draw on my varied academic, vocational and professional trainings, as well as experience having worked in related industries including children's services and intensive service support mental health. Integrative therapy is a demanding model that requires competency and qualification in a wide range of models.
