My Approach to Helping
I understand what a bold step you are taking in seeking counseling. You know you want a change but you also know that you want someone to walk beside you during this time. Thats where I come in. My style is relaxed and warm providing a safe and non-judgmental place where you are free to explore who you are, what changes you want to make and discover a deeper understanding of yourself. I offer a direct and solution-oriented approach as we work through this together. Ultimately, the goal is to see you acquire new skills and ways of thinking that will create a positive and healthy change for you. I am passionate about helping families understand each other and helping individuals understand events that have happened within their own family. I also feel strongly about helping women with low self-esteem who are struggling with daily life, self-perception or having a difficult time finding their purpose or meaning in life. Helping women find their voice and their own sense of pride makes my heart swell with joy. Being Spanish-American I have a heart for the hispanic culture and the obstacles that come with acculturalizing into American society. Leaving family behind in another country, trying to find respectable work, raising your children to have pride in their heritage while they try to fit into American ways are all very personal and frustrating. I can help you navigate through these issues.

More Info About My Practice
I am a bilingual and bicultural Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. My clients encompass the entire life span from children to teens to adults, either individually, as couples or within family structures.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

Therapy can be what you choose to make it. If you want to talk about one specific issue you are dealing with and leave it at that, its your choice. If you want to bring up multiple issues stemming from the past, that is acceptable as well. Just know that there are no expectations of you when you walk through my door except that you are being honest with me and yourself and you are willing to do the work it takes to resolve whatever your struggles are.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

I think a "flawed person" is someone who recognizes they are not happy or they are having a difficult time with an issue and yet choose to ignore it and not fix the problem. Those who choose to invest in going to therapy show an enormous amount of strength and ability to resolve their issues. It used to be thought that people only went to therapy when they were "crazy" and had some sort of major mental health diagnosis. Thats not the case anymore and having a therapist is becoming more widely acceptable. When you sit across from me I am not going to tell you how sorry I am for the turmoil in your life. What I will do is help you figure out ways to take control of your life and make a plan to resolve whatever it is that is working against you.
