My Approach to Helping
When working with clients, I want to make sure each person's experience is one that is positive and unique. I pride myself in not only listening to every client's own personal story but at the same time, I want them to feel like they can truly have a voice and be heard without any judgment. I practice therapy out of two main theories of psychotherapy. The first tenet is Person Centered Therapy developed by Dr. Carl Rogers. It consists of unconditional positive regard, congruence, and empathy. In my opinion, the most important aspect of therapy is having a strong rapport and trust. As a therapist, I believe in collaborating together to find the best course of action.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the primary technique based therapy model I follow. It states that our thoughts affect an emotional state and that emotional state affects our behavior. Most clients enter therapy with emotional or behavioral issues or problems. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on the source of the problem, and how it originated so its aim is to eliminate the root of our issues therefore leading to long-lasting change. I specialize in working with families and adolescents. While attending school, I interned at a juvenile detention center and worked with troubled teens for a year. I also volunteered some time at a local Rape Crisis center. Currently I also work as a therapist at a boot camp for teens with behavioral issues. In addition to working with adolescents and families, I also specialize in working with clients that have anxiety issues, depression, adjustment difficulties, self-esteem, eating disorders, anger management and adoption issues. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
More Info About My Practice
I offer a free 10 minute consultation for all clients that call me. I typically charge 50 dollars a session, but I offer a sliding scale for clients that may need it.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Troubled teens, and adoption issues. I find I can relate well to teens, and they feel as though they are talking with a friend instead of a therapist which allows them to open up and progress towards their goals.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
In general psychotherapy assists people in reaching their full potential as a person. My goal is to plant a seed and guide them on that path so they have a fulfilling happy life.
