Social Media Marketing for Mental Health Professionals: The Art of Engagement

Presented by Xam Devesh, GoodTherapy.org Social Media Manager on 08-10-2012 at 9 a.m. Pacific to 10:30 a.m. Pacific (1:30 p.m. Eastern)

Social media is one of the fastest growing marketing platforms on the planet. However, it does not follow the same practices common to “regular” mainstream marketing. People marketing services through social media must engage with others to be successful. This Web Conference will discuss techniques that mental health professionals can use to market their practice and make an impact through social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Facebook has over 600 million users and is the second most visited website on the internet. For many people, including potential therapy clients, participation in Facebook has become an aspect of their daily routine and lifestyle. This Web Conference will discuss strategies mental health professionals can use for optimizing a professional Facebook page, including making it easier for visitors to find important contact information. It will also highlight the types of content to post, the frequency at which to interact, and how to drive visitors from Facebook to one's website or GoodTherapy.org profile.

Twitter is another social networking website that can be used by practitioners to build a following and share articles, as well as other stories, images, and videos found on the Internet. It is relatively easy to grow a Twitter account in one's niche and become recognized for contributing to the ongoing discussions that take place through Twitter. This Web Conference will explain how to start a Twitter account, build a following, and automate a Twitter account so that it continues to grow without much extra effort or time.

Lastly, this Web Conference will explain LinkedIn (LI)--a platform in which practitioners can connect with other professionals, share work, and find peer support. LI is one of the most useful social networks for therapists, as it offers a way to connect with other professionals in one's field--potentially resulting in quality referrals from new e-colleagues. This Web Conference will highlight strategies to optimize a LI profile, describe how to join groups, and illustrate ways to engage with other professionals resulting in an expanded online presence.

Please note that this event is not offered with CE credits for mental health professionals as this presentation covers strategies for marketing and growing your practice; it is not an educational event about ethics or clinical topics. We encourage participants to attend or listen to the recording of How to Maintain a Responsible and Ethical Online Presence as a Mental Health Practitioner which will be held Friday, August 3, 2012. Presented by DeeAnna Merz Nagel, LPC, DCC, this event will discuss interactive social media and ways for mental health professionals to maintain an ethical online presence.
