When I was young I had decided that despair was the human condition. I didn't realize that those things that we encounter (beginning with our in utero and birth experience) influence how our brain, body, emotions, and perception of self and others develop. I couldn't see beyond my own internal experience at twenty and interpreted life through the filter of my history. It was life altering to begin to learn that we are fluid and changeable and can heal and transform our narrowed perceptions of life's possibilities. We can in fact shape our destiny beyond what seems stuck, immutable, and limited. With an understanding of how environment, life experiences, and hard-wiring can coalesce into the patterned ways we learn to live, how to shift the patterns becomes available to us. Having the possibility of helping others achieve what I have experienced in my own life is like winning the lottery. It is so tremendously gratifying to share and witness someone feeling a change occurring in their brain and body. It is so empowering when one can experience their own internal shifts. These internal changes can produce a ripple effect into one’s life making relationships easier, hard times more manageable, a clearer sense of how to effect changes in one’s world, and the possibility of feeling joy and gratitude for the beauty that is a part of life.
