MFT Trainee and Intern Process Group

The process and preparation in becoming a therapist can be both exciting and arduous. It's a long road from your graduate program to licensure, and along the way a myriad of emotions and concerns can emerge. This is a valuable opportunity to experience group process and self-discovery, while increasing self-awareness, and receiving professional support. Some types of issues that may be addressed include:

  * Dealing with the pressures of school
  * Working with clients for the first time
  * Processing cases that feel challenging or stressful
  * Managing your countertransference and triggers
  * Navigating your traineeship or internship
  * Handling test anxiety while preparing for your board exams
  * Shifting in how you view yourself both personally and professionally
  * Increasing understanding of interpersonal dynamics

The group will consist of a safe and supportive environment where you may explore these issues and many others with other pre-licensed therapists who are in a similar phase of professional development. Please note however, that this is not clinical supervision.

The BBS allows trainees and interns to count personal psychotherapy towards the 3000 required clinical hours, and the hours spent in therapy are then tripled. This means that for every 2-hour group you participate in, you will receive 6 hours towards licensure under the professional enrichment category. A maximum of 100 hours of therapy are allowed, which when tripled count as 300 hours towards the 3000 that you need for licensing. Group therapy can be an affordable way to gain hours while receiving the many benefits of the process.
