My Approach to Helping
I work from a collaborative, empathetic, and nonjudgemental point of view. My therapeutic approaches are eclectic in order to best serve you; however, I also draw from Existential, Cognitive Behavioral, and Relational-Oriented approaches when appropriate. This means I believe we all face issues in our lives that test our stamina and that challenge us to move beyond our difficulties and struggles; however difficult, we have the ability to stand-up again and turn suffering into meaning and purpose. Many of us also incorporate negative descriptions of ourselves that are self-defeating; by gaining more universal awareness and learning to define ourselves in more self-productive ways, we can remember to have empathy and to love and respect our individuality. Too often we forget just how resilient we actually are in light of our difficult circumstances. Lastly, our client/therapist relationship also holds great value as you and I will have the opportunity to define the types of relationships you wish to have in your life.

In general, I believe individuals have the ability to change unhealthy behaviors and self-defeating thoughts and crippling emotions; couples have the ability to enrich their relationship after infidelity or after years of dissatisfaction; and, communities have the ability to reshape disastrous situations and entire environments through altruistic actions. In the darkest or bleakest of times, anything and everything is possible. It is during these times that we discover who we really are!

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I work with a diverse group of clients. Most of my clients have issues related to stress, relationships, boundary issues, difficult upbringings, and outdated belief systems that no longer fit with their worldview. I also work with clients that have a wide range of issues, including: depression, anxiety, personality issues, LGBTQ concerns, issues related to men and women, and behavioral additions.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

There are many reasons for seeking counseling and therapy. Many people seek-out counseling during the most difficult or challenging times in their lives. It is during these "acute" stages that they are able to find immediate support and assistance to overcome and walk-through their difficulties. For others, counseling is seen as mental gymnastics—just like a healthy regular exercise routine can keep the body fit, a regular counseling session can keep the mind active, engaged and stimulated. It's not so much about "solving a problem" as much as it is about having a safe, unbiased, objective and mentally stimulating environment to explore the emotional, cognitive, behavioral and spiritual aspects of ourselves. Many people—including myself—view therapy as a "proactive approach" to staying mentally fit and healthy.
