My Approach to Helping
I believe that we are primarily social beings and that our relationships, past and present, continuously impact on our growth as individuals. I work interpersonally, and I take an active, vocal role in therapy. Psychotherapy can be an extremely effective tool in addressing specific difficulties that may deplete your energy and lead to sadness, anxiety, loneliness and a general feeling of discontent. It is also beneficial as an aid to personal growth and self improvement.

I specialize in helping individuals overcome common life stressors such as marital or family discord, anger, work-related conflicts, health problems, and financial concerns. I can also help you if you feel stuck or unable to let go of an unhealthy past relationship or childhood trauma.

We will work together to help you feel better about yourself, interact more effectively with your coworkers, family and friends, and balance life's demands while prioritizing your mental and physical health. Psychotherapy will also benefit in identifying fears, addressing anxieties, improving insight, and increasing necessary skills, such as communication, coping and anger management skills.

More Info About My Practice
Psychotherapy is about change. Individuals decide to seek psychotherapy for many different reasons, but underlying all these is a desire for things to be different and for positive changes to occur. Whether you are seeking relief from specific symptoms such as depression or anxiety, to improve your relationship with your family, partner or spouse, or personal-growth and self- improvement, psychotherapy can facilitate the necessary changes to make those things happen.

People often question the value or efficacy of psychotherapy, believing that friends and family members serve the same role as therapists. While having close relationships with your family and friends is extremely beneficial, the therapeutic relationship is unique. It does not carry with it the history inherent in the above relationships, and it is therefore less susceptible to judgments, criticisms, or unfair conclusions. There are no harsh ramifications for your anger, embarrassment or any other uncomfortable or "bad" emotions. You are free to be yourself, without the expectations we feel obligated to fulfill in our other roles (spouse, parent, son/daughter, employee, etc.)

Our work together will be a collaboration, as we bring about the changes you seek. As therapy progresses, you will have improved insight into your feelings and more adaptive skills in managing difficulties that would previously have resulted in sadness and anxiety. Exploring your thoughts, fears, and anxieties will also bring about improvements in self esteem and in your relationships with the significant people in your life.

I am flexible and informal in my approach and I tailor therapy to the individual and his/her specific concerns. I offer a free initial consultation to assess whether I can help you and whether we are right for each other. Please feel free to contact me via phone, email or by filling out the form on my website.
