My Approach to Helping
MY APPROACH TO PSYCHOTHERAPY combines various principles and methods of psychology that I have studied since 1970. However, success in therapy depends less on any specific theory or technique, and much more on the therapist's understanding of each person's own unique feelings, thoughts, and experiences. This understanding must be present for a person to achieve their goals in therapy.
DURING A TYPICAL THERAPY SESSION,I respond with observations and ideas to help clarify a person's problems and concerns. I offer new perspectives, suggestions, and recommendations. But this is not just an intellectual process. Psychotherapy is a special kind of learning, because it involves emotions along with the intellect. So during therapy, a person should expect to share a range of feelings with the therapist, including sadness and anger, as well as laughter and enjoyment.
A PERSON IN THERAPY WITH ME will, I hope, feel understood and emotionally safe as I encourage him or her to work towards improvement, and will have confidence in my expertise and my commitment to his or her well-being.
More Info About My Practice
THE PEOPLE WHO SEEK MY HELP often have anxiety, depression, or conflicts in their relationships. Some are struggling to heal their emotional wounds from abuse or neglect in childhood. Their problems may include poor self-image, loneliness, inhibitions, and underachievement.
If indicated, I can arrange for medication through my collaboration with a psychiatrist or personal physician. However, while medication can ease a person's misery, it is not a substitute for an understanding therapist.
I also work with those individuals whose mental problems are severe and debilitating.
I accept referrals from attorneys whose clients are facing legal difficulties, particularly accusations of inappropriate sexual activity.
