My Approach to Helping

Psychotherapy is about alleviating emotional pain and fostering wholeness and vitality across all areas of life. In order to do this, a vital part of therapeutic success is forming a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. My approach centers on creating a warm, collaborative and interactive therapeutic setting in which painful or troubling feelings, thoughts, memories, and issues can be faced and worked through.

Goals are tailored to each individual, and can be brief and focused, or longer-term and more depth-oriented. Often therapy begins by focusing on relief from emotional and other symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, or troubling behaviors. From there, therapy may involve deeper explorations aimed at producing a richer sense of oneself, greater personal agency, and more satisfying, richer relationships with others and one's life endeavors.

More Info About My Practice

With over 17 years experience providing therapy, I center on helping clients to address many life concerns, including:

* Overcoming depression, loss, emptiness, and hopelessness.
* Managing anxiety problems, such as general chronic anxiety and worry, obsessive compulsive symptoms, and anxiety in social situations.
* Couples Counseling: Addressing relationship problems; relationships are a vital part of our lives, and many people start therapy due to problems in connecting with others, maintaining satisfying relationships, loneliness, or emotional issues that "get in the way," such as anger or fear.
* Dealing with body image problems, eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia).
* Trauma: dealing with aftereffects of traumatic events, childhood abuse, rape, combat-related trauma.
* Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and asexual concerns and issues. Also issues related to gender expression, gender transition, etc.

I've very briefly outlined general, common concerns that may bring someone to treatment with me. Please see my website for additional information: http://www.drpatrickneer.com
