My Approach to Helping
I am a humanistic and holistic counselor and approach treatment from a Jungian perspective. By this I mean, I view the client as having unconscious conflicts and emotions stored in the unconscious mind, thus causing dysfunction and emotional pain. I often recommend and incorporate art, writing and dance or sports in addition to individual and group counseling. The reasoning which I base these techniques is that creatative expression often unlocks hidden emotions, and pain needs expression. I strongly believe the power of thoughts and beliefs determines our physical wellbeing. The mind/body connection is an area of continued study for me.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

The length of time to complete therapy varies. It depends on the issues, how long they have been a problem for the client. Some clients are in a transitional situation and we together can identify therapeutic goals and achieve those goals in a few months. Other clients made have been in a long-term abusive relationship and have more issues and trauma to work through, real healing in therapy may take a year or more. Often, a client will begin therapy and come to weekly sessions. and then all of a sudden find themselves in alot of pain. The client at this point wants to quit, actually, this is the time to move forward and work through the pain. Sometime this emotional pain is hidden and beginning therapy starts to open it up. Clients may work with the therapist for awhile and decide to take a break and come back to therapy at a later date. The therapy is completed when the problematic symptoms have been resolved. Ideally, this would been assessed and discussed client and therapist together.
