My Approach to Helping

My philosophy is that everyone has strengths and gifts to offer the world, as well as challenges that can create obstacles to realizing one's fullest potential. With support, we all have the ability to develop the insight and strategies needed for overcoming these challenges. Children are part of a family system, and in order to address their needs we must identify the strengths and challenges of parents and other family members. Family members must learn to understand each other and operate in supportive ways that benefit everyone involved.

 

 

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My specialty area is evaluating and treating children, adolescents, and young adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, etc. I have been working with individuals and families affected by these disorders for 15 years, and am skilled in a number of research-based evaluation and therapy techniques. Clients tell me they value the comprehensive approach I take to treatment, the individualized support I offer them, and the care and compassion I exhibit. Over the past few years I have been involved with research studies evaluating the efficacy of relationship and developmentally-focused treatment models for autism and related disorders.

 

My Role as a Therapist

My role as therapist is to partner with individuals and families to come to a more complete understanding of the challenges they face and what strategies may be beneficial in overcoming those challenges. I seek to empower clients to set and achieve goals for themselves, and spotlight thoughts and actions that may be obstacles to achieving the goals that are meaningful to them. I also help clients sort through information and options so they can make the best decisions for them and their families.
