My Approach to Helping

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a relational process. When your discomfort reaches critical mass it may be time to step out of your isolation by forming a therapeutic alliance. The pull toward therapy reflects an activated inner voice telling you there must be relief from discomfort and hopelessness, more positive experience to be found, more to give, and more to be received in life. A good therapeutic connection is felt by each person in the collaboration. Safety and trust gain strength through experience. The process is organic and can only be nourished, never forced. Mutual commitment to the process is essential. Within such creative collaboration there is enough time and space for you to discover the barriers (some self-imposed and some environmental) which are blocking essential aspects of your "self". Often these barriers have roots in earlier times and are surprisingly eager to retreat after getting the attention they deserve. After all, they served an important function in some earlier time.

More Info About My Practice

Having had the honor of participating in therapeutic relationships during the past thirty years I can attest to the value of collaboration in the creation of growth and healing. Because some of my roots are in the arts I have developed numerous ways of incorporating active processes based in theater arts, music, literary arts, and movement in a psychotherapy studio designed for this work. When these resources seem useful, they are available to individuals, partners, groups and families and can be incorporated into in-going work. CREATIVE ENERGY IS HEALING ENERGY.
