People see me because of problems. By the time they schedule an appointment, they have likely attempted many solutions. Often, these failed solutions perpetuate the problem. My approach in therapy is to create an environment of safety so that we can 1) understand the problem, 2) understand failed solutions, 3) explore alternative solutions, and 4) build upon what is already working. This may sound easy, but often there are a multitude of things that keep people stuck. Part of the process may include exploring these things. It can be a difficult but rewarding process.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I enjoy working with couples helping them achieve greater intimacy in their relationship. I have experienced success joining with each partner helping them feel valued and heard. This is what makes working with couples challenging for some therapists, but it is an aspect which I enjoy and am able to achieve.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
The short answer is as long as it takes. Therapy will not cure all of a client's life problems. I see therapy as an avenue for getting clients toa place where they can function on their own and continue on a positive trajectory. This means therapy can last for as little as one session up to as long as the client feels they need therapy and we both can see progress being made.
