My Approach to Helping
"Are you struggling with your relationships? With your sexuality or sex life?"
My practice specifically deals with these issues -- gay or straight. That includes sexual dysfunction, sex addictions, sexuality related questions; as well as breakups, divorce and couples counseling. Most sexual acting out, most addictions, are our attempts to regulate painful emotions of loss, disconnection, rejection and alienation.
As a cognitive behavioral therapist I believe we are the product of our thoughts, or core beliefs like, "I'm not good enough,"I'm unlovable, or "I can't count on anyone." These beliefs become self-fulfilling prophesies. But we are being ruled by the unchallenged conclusions of a five year old, and we can turn down this brain noise!

More Info About My Practice
I am not a preferred provider on any of the health insurance panels, and run a pay-as-you-go practice. However, I can give you receipts which you can file with your insurance company. They will sometimes pay a part of my fee, as an out-of-network provider. I don't negotiate fees, however my fee is about a third lower than most psychotherapists at my level of experience.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

The clients I do best with are struggling with relationship issues, and disorders of "attachment" such as addictions. I work with couples, and also people experiencing breakups. Most problems people bring to therapy involve relationships with others, or in some cases like social anxiety or depression, the lack of relationships.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

I think sometimes my age is an advantage here. I'm old enough to be most of my clients' father. I believe a relationship of trust and raport with my clients is more important than academic qualifications and years of experience. I also ascribe to the belief that I have to like and respect all my clients, and if I don't I help them find another therapist. I can't be all things to all people, but to those I connect with I am committed.
