My Approach to Helping
Blending conventional and alternative therapies such as Mindfulness and Spirituality, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Supportive Therapy, Imago Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and EMDR, I tailor sessions to meet each client's individual needs. My approach is to understand symptoms and patterns as coping mechanisms and manifestations of underlying core beliefs developed in response to one's experiences. It is through this compassionate exploration that one is able to develop more understanding, self-acceptance and become empowered to make needed changes for greater freedom and authenticity.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My speciality is in the treatment of eating disorders and body image issues. Having experienced and fully recovered from an eating disorder many years ago, I am acutely aware of the particular thoughts, fears and behaviors that clients afflicted with an eating disorder experience and the many challenges they will face in pursuit of recovery. I believe my experience has provided me with insight and compassion that has helped many clients.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I do believe my own struggles have made me a better therapist in that I can more easily understand and empathize with what a client may be experiencing. Being grounded in my own sense of value and worth despite my struggles helps me to see clients in that light; as a human being with inherent worth who is dealing with human vulnerabilities and struggles. I believe no one is immune to these struggles and there is beauty and pathos in the efforts to become real and work through these issues. I truly respect those who acknowledge their issues and do the hard work of facing them and seeking greater wholeness and health as it requires courage, strength, humility and hope.
