My Approach to Helping

I use a client-centered approach where the client plays an active part in directing their counseling; this includes determining their ultimate goals and/or objectives. I often aid clients to choose the focus of their session to help address issues that may have developed between appointments. Although trained in multiple therapeutic approaches, I tend to utilize a more eclectic focus using those skills/techniques that fit the client rather than the client to the "text book". I work with individuals, couple and adult families. As a Geriatric Specialist, I have the skills to provide an expertise in working with this population and their families. With ten years in the community mental health field, I bring a breadth of experience that is unusual in private practice. Every person is capable of change, to improve his or her quality of life. Professional counseling can help you recognize that past and present problems do not have to control your thoughts, mood or the choices you make. Through counseling, you can learn to identify behavior patterns that have influenced your personality, relationships and beliefs about yourself and others. Therapy can offer the opportunity to change, to develop new skills, improve self-esteem, and help you learn to make healthy decisions. Counseling offers a means to examine when and why struggling with day-to-day issues seems to make coping difficult.
