My Approach to Helping
Counseling offers a safe place to receive help in times of trouble or hurt that we all experience as part of the human condition. I look at each individual as unique. I work with each individual in a holistic manner, assessing their emotional needs, relational needs, intellectual needs, physical needs and spiritual needs and then apply the knowledge and insight gained to the the clients present individual areas of difficulty.

I am also client focused; the goals my clients want to accomplish are my focus. I coach my clients in developing the skills that are necessary to accomplish their goals and resolve their issues and make lasting life changes. My purpose is also to reflect the life-giving ministry of God, in a relevant way, to people in today's world.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love working with people and seeing their uniqueness. No matter what mental health diagnosis a person may be given, each individual is unique in his/her personality makeup, life experiences, physical makeup and individual needs. I love seeing the person as a whole, created by God, for a special place in this life. Each individual has enormous potential and a part of therapy is to not only to bring healing to the individual, but to empowering him /her to to be able to grasp new concepts and insights that allow living, functioning, and reaching to a new and higher level of experiencing life. I see my role as not only a counselor, but as an encourager, couch and mentor. I thoroughly enjoy people and I marvel at seeing the wondrous changes that can occurring in their lives if they are open and courageous enough to take new steps in life. Everyone experiences troubles in life and hurts as part of the human condition. It is courageous to recognize this, and to step forward and to ask for and receive helps when these challenges occur.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

The length of therapy depend on the individual client, the problems that he/she is presenting with, and the goals of the client. When deep hurt and subsequent pain and dysfunction has occurred over a number of years, therapy may take longer and last a number of months. In other situations fewer sessions of intensive problem solving therapy may be all that is needed. My goal as a therapist is to help improve the life functioning, well being, and future potential of the individual client. As soon as a client is able to move out on his or her own with new knowledge and skills and with a confidence and a sense of well being, it is my goal to encourage them to soar on hi/her own. As this proficiency is developed, I begin reducing the frequency of sessions as soon as it is advisable. I wish to encourage an independence and empowerment as soon as possible.
