My Approach to Helping

When clients come to my office, I begin by listening, focusing on the event(s) which being them in and what they need and want from therapy. I view therapy as a collaborative effort and see myself as a coach, advocate, supporter, clarifier, and teacher of life skills. I view good mental health as living in process. This means understanding how and why we do what we do. It requires tuning in to our emotional state, developing an awareness not just of what we think but also of what we feel, what impels us to act, and discovering the triggers that evoke emotional responses. Therapy is hard work and can be very rewarding. It requires an investment of time and emotion as well as a willingness to go as deep as needed to resolve issues and find new direction. I believe people can change and, in turn, they can change their circumstances and their lives. Therapy can be an invaluable tool in accomplishing change.
