My view of therapy tends to be nonconventional. I'm more interested in helping people find a meaningful way of approaching their lives than thinking in terms of diagnosis. I focus on growth and change through insight into experience and feelings. I do not do behavioral therapy. If we could think our way out of problems, change would be easy. I am comfortable working within a 12-Step framework and I believe spiritual issues can play a part in emotional healing. A good match between client and therapist is essential if psychotherapy is to have a beneficial outcome.
I have been in private practice for 30 years and have been affiliated with The Hazelden Foundation for the past 13 years. I also train new therapists. My approach is individualized and I glad to meet for an initial consultation so people can get a feel for how I work.
I generally work best with patients who are motivated to change and who are interested in developing self-knowledge. I am also comfortable with patients who have longstanding problems and difficult issues. For more comprehensive information on my approach, background, and insurance visit my website linked above.
