My Approach to Helping
In my private practice, and in my work at Insight Treatment Program, my goal is to help clients identify the life they want to live and what interfers with achieving these goals. My specialties include working with individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, stress, and those who use drugs, alcohol, food or other sabotaging behaviors (e.g., self-harm) to mask emotional pain.

In my work, I focus on helping clients work through their emotional and relational difficulties; help them recover from self-destructive and painful life experiences; help them work through issues such as substance abuse, eating disorders, traumatic childhood experiences, relationship and attachment difficulties, depression, anxiety, infertility, and marital issues.

Through self-awareness, insights, changes in thinking, and new action steps clients can find emotional and spiritual recovery.

I focus on helping clients achieve a deeper understanding of how their underlying dynamics effect relationships with self and others.
I believe that along with dynamics we also need to learn to identify, express, and explore our cognitive processes and behaviors.

We often have intergenerational issues and until we can understand and break these cycles we find ourselves habitually or unconsciously repeating harmful behaviors and thought patterns. I help clients to understand how their dysfunctional or harmful behaviors - which were once effective solutions - become their own problems. At times this work can best be done individually, while at other times family work may be the best strategy for multi-generational healing.

In addition, I believe that we need to re-integrate our body, mind, and spirit - which calls for some degree of somatic and trauma based healing. Somatic healing to help us recover from the traumas of daily life and/or trauma of abusive relationships either adult or early childhood trauma.

Equally important, though, is the relationship in the therapeutic room between therapist and client. I believe in the importance of a collaborative and positively nurturing therapeutic alliance. I hope to provide a corrective emotional experience that allows for continual growth of the whole individual as a relational being.
