My Approach to Helping
My primary areas of practice are teens, individuals, and couples.
My first passion in counseling shines through helping teens who struggle with parents, school and friendships. This begins with first meeting the teen and parents together for family therapy and then individually as I understand the family better; as needed family members then join as opportunities for healing & growth develop.
In working with individuals, my approach begins with developing a plan designed to help the person cope with personal problems including: anxiety, stress, depression, grief, anger or relationships. Satisfaction comes from supporting people in resolving conflict with their feelings, behaviors, or thoughts while discovering new perspectives and watching a person return to good health or greater peace.
As for couple's work, it begins with the challenge of moving a couple from a state of tension to a sense of safety and finally to new thoughts which allow new feelings in the relationship.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Facing challenges, taking responsibilities and looking at one's self in therapy process hardly constitutes weakness. Avoidance is often a human's first response to problems; however, they don't typically resolve when left alone. Therapy doesn't have to be an act of desperation; it can be a proactive way of seeking opportunities for growth or better health. Often a person can speed up the growth process by seeking professional help or to be better equipped to successfully navigate a difficult period of life.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

The number of sessions a person or couples needs depends on a lot of factors. Sometimes a person may experience enough growth after four to six sessions. It is very common for a person to decide after a few sessions to end therapy. This is a topic we discuss during treatment. I want to know if the treatment is working or what changes we can make. My door always remains open for people to return to therapy if needed. While I gladly offer my professional opinion, the person or couple decides when to end treatment.
