My Approach to Helping
My approach is based in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology, as well as a strong understanding of human development, child development and the importance of early intervention when a parent suspects something is just not right with their child. My training in 'brain-based' approaches to Play Therapy adds to my experience using the child-centered models.
Filial Play Therapy, bringing in the parents and/or siblings, can be a natural outcome of individual play therapy for a child struggling with any number of issues: school, peers, resistance to authority, 'acting out', anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction & self-esteem. I utilize more directive techniques, where appropriate, especially with children on the spectrum.
I engage in co-therapy with equine therapists and occupational therapists, when necessary, and run Social Skills Play Therapy Groups for children with learning differences, affect dysregulation, ASD and peer struggles.
Adolescents respond well to a Jungian approach to Sandplay Therapy, combined with solution-focused therapy.

Groups I Work With
I work primarily with children and adolescents, ages 3-17, families, women as mothers. Developmental Play Therapy using Sand Play and Play Therapy. My area of expertise is working with children with learning differences, children on the Autism Spectrum (HFA, PDD-NOS, Aspergers, ADD) and those struggling with social reciprocity, self-esteem, regulatory and psychosocial issues.
