My Approach to Helping

In our society people are encouraged to do as much as they can for themselves, by themselves. This can be great and it can motivate us to pull from our well of internal resources to cope with things we never thought possible. However, there are times when what we know how to do and what we have within us doesn't feel like enough to correct the situation. At these times it can be a wise and courageous choice to reach out for professional help. It takes courage also to ignore the shame and stigma that our society places on reliance on others. So if you are ready to get help, I applaud you. You've already overcome a lot of programming from society and a very independent-minded culture. I see myself as an ally in your healing journey, someone who is invested in helping you find healthy coping but who is not exclusively responsible for your wellness. You are responsible for your wellness too, and I look forward to encouraging you to empower yourself whenever possible in your self care.
